Why We Need to Vote for Louis McNutt
In Minnesota Senate District 29, Louis McNutt is running against the Avon Lady. We need to vote for McNutt. But before I explain that…
Some of you may know that I ran against McNutt in the District 29 DFL primary. Our politics probably overlap by about 90%, because we both are Democrats. But I had concerns about McNutt’s electability. After attending the District 29 DFL convention, I developed significant concerns about the “leadership” I saw.
At the convention, everyone was cheering like they were at a football game. There was no serious and thoughtful discussion about how Democrats could turn around 30 years of catastrophic election defeats out here. There was no attempt to understand our many failures and ask what we could do differently. The Democratic leadership out here still hasn’t asked this question.
If the Democratic leadership out here were the management team of a corporation, they would have been fired years ago. If the Democratic leadership out here were the coaching staff of the Minnesota Vikings, they would have been fired many times over. This is because they suck.
I ran in the primary to shake things up. If you are a Wright County Democrat and have a problem with that, all I can say is “tough.” It’s called “politics.” We Democrats are not going to get better out here unless we become more serious about strategies that can actually win elections in a district that has turned red because of our past failures.
Having said all of this…
We all need to vote for McNutt on November 3rd.
His opponent, Michael Holmstrom, is like the Avon Lady. Do you remember the Avon Lady from the 1960s and 1970s. It was a national Multi Level Marketing scheme. All the products, brochures, and even the sales pitch, came from the national organization, but they created the impression that the Avon Lady was the woman who lived down the street. While that part was sometimes true, there was nothing home grown about the Avon Lady or the products she pushed. It was a national marketing juggernaut.
This is why Holmstrom is the Avon Lady. He is a willing but gullible pawn of Project 2025 and its goal of cultural engineering. He is the minion of people he doesn’t know, who are in service to the few tech bro oligarchs who want fascism in America so they can make more money without government regulation or interference. Many proposed bills that Holmstrom offered in the 2026 session were drafted by Project 2025, and the same legislation was offered in legislatures in about 25 states in 2026. It’s a coordinated national attempt to take over state legislatures. It looks like a conspiracy of sorts.
These Holmstrom bills include:
A bill to make it a crime for a psychologist or therapist to work with a trans person. As far as I know, Holmstrom is a junior college dropout. He knows nothing about psychology, therapy or the practice of medicine. Nonetheless, he would insert himself in the middle of the therapeutic relationship, telling a psychologist what they can, or cannot say, to their client. Holmstrom offered legislation that would make it a felony, including up to 10 years in prison, if a therapist works with a trans person, other than to say you cannot be trans. Holmstrom and his Project 2025 handlers feel good about this, because it aligns with his very strange views on religion, views that he wants to enshrine right here in Wright County.
(My personal speculation is that Holmstrom was a bully in high school. He enjoyed it, so he is a bully now. He still enjoys it. He justifies his bullying of LGBTQ folks by spouting lies about what the Christian Bible says.)
A bill to force local law enforcement to work for ICE whenever ICE is in town, beating heads and disappearing people from our homes and streets. Another Project 2025 goal. Every law enforcement person I have talked to about this, including the Republicans, say this is a horrible idea. Most law enforcement happens on the street, and our deputies and police officers need to have a good rapport with the community to understand what is going on and know who the bad guys are and where they are hiding. That won’t happen if they work for ICE.
A bill to erect a statute of Charlie Kirk on the University of Minnesota main campus. Charlie Kirk had no connection to Minnesota, except that his stylized brand of sophisticated racism and misogyny resonates with some Minnesotans like Holmstrom and his ilk. And yes, Holmstrom wanted to spend tens of thousands of our tax dollars erecting this monument to ignorance and hate.
Also, Holmstrom helped pass a bill that gave the City of Monticello another $10 million or so to remove manganese from the water. Even though the level of manganese is safely under federal guidelines, small amounts of manganese will wreck the cooling system of the proposed Monticello data center.
So, what does Louis McNutt offer? I’ve talked to him a few times, and for starters, he’s a reasonable person. He sincerely wants to help average people get by in life. He is on our side. He is concerned about affordability. He is concerned about the cost of health care. He wants to ban non-disclosure agreements from government.
There are many more reasons why Democrats and Republicans alike should support Louis McNutt for Minnesota Senate 29. You can read about them here: https://louismcnuttformnsenate.com/
